There are few spiritual traditions that take the form side of Life as seriously as Yoga does. Thereby, it has become so famous for its physical practices that Yoga as a Whole is often misunderstood to be only those physical practices.
And, one only has to look at the history of Yoga in the western world in the past century or so up to now, to see how fast spiritual teachings can decline. While surely not all examples are bad ones — spiritual Yoga definitely exists in the west — more often than not Yoga is reduced to being little more than āsana. And of those instances, āsana has usually been reduced to little more than a form of physical exercise…
If not physical exercise, than what is āsana in reality?
We explore the answers to that question in this course, which is intended to help you build up your āsanas, both from spirit to form & from form to spirit. While we become able to do this, we will start seeing how this world famous attribute of Yoga has less to do with our physical body than it seems. It will become to our eyes a way of directing subtle energy and Life itself, as it flows around and is seated in our physical body.
Because that is the true meaning of the word āsana, which comes from Sanskrit: our body is the seat on which our consciousness sits, as it explores life in and around physical matter. Different postures influence the flow of energy — which is Life — in different ways. Therefore we could say this course is about how to relate our body to our consciousness. In order to retain and create vitality, good health, long life, etcetera. And to use its specific qualities as tools for psychological transformation.
